Eric Eugene Summers of Mt. Vernon Church Rd, Winston-Salem, died April 21, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Eric was born September 2, 1971 in Rowan County and was the son of the late Joseph and Kittie Summers of Rowan County. He was a graduate of West Rowan High School in Mt. Ulla, where he made some of his lifelong friends. From an early age, he developed a deep love of fishing and it remained a favorite pastime throughout his life. After graduation, he began his journey in the work field and enjoyed various forms of employment. At the time of his death, he was employed by Davie County High School as the Head Custodian. Since his start there in 2013, he enjoyed the close-knit atmosphere with the staff and students and was appreciated for his kindness, warm smile and positive attitude.
During his life, he took to heart the Bible truths his loving parents had shared with him while growing up. On May 23, 2009 he made the most important decision of his life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This decision led him to become a full-time minister of Jehovah God. He was able to meet his wife Cristy at a school for full-time ministers. They married on March 1, 2014, and were able to enjoy this privilege of full-time ministry together for a time. During their 6 years of marriage, they created many joyful memories spending time with family and friends, traveling, and working together as a team to accomplish their shared goals. He was currently serving as an elder in the Waughtown Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a privilege that he greatly treasured. Eric enjoyed teaching others about Jehovah God’s comforting promise that one day there would be no more pain, suffering, sorrow or death. He looked forward to this promise being fulfilled soon on the earth.
Eric is survived by his wife Cristine; stepsons, Nicholas and Ethan Page; sisters, Varonica Godfrey and Lynda Summers; brother, Keith Summers and wife Lori; nieces, Bianca Summers, Mahogané Godfrey, Magenta Godfrey, Zariah Summers, and Zoey Summers; and great-niece, Jaida Thompson. Also surviving are additional family members, Cory Mitchell, Dekeita Dobson, Jyzarious Chalk, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
