Eric Austin Smith

Mr. Eric Austin Smith, 52 of Winston-Salem left abruptly for his heavenly home on Friday evening December 4th 2015. There he will be reunited with his immediate family that includes his mother, Lorena White Smith, his father, Raymond Howard Smith and his brother, Stuart Raymond Smith.
Eric was born and raised in Winston-Salem, N.C. and has called DePaul Southfork Assisted Living home for many years. While there he made many friends and called many others there his family. He was content with having a safe place to stay where warmth and love came from the other residents and caring staff he encountered each and every day. Eric was not in control of his circumstance but he was in control of his beliefs and his steadfast love for his Lord and Savior. He was truly a faithful servant in each and every way. His gentle and kind compassion resonated with everyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him, as did his intelligence. He was known for being the resident historian. Though limited in his access for a more formal education, Eric's appetite for reading was never a hindrance. Once something was read it was categorically contained in his memory and could be recalled with amazing efficiency. His intellect was rivaled only by his quick wit and easy smile.
Throughout his lifetime he had some special people in his life but none that could rival the love he had for God.

Surviving are his two sisters Robin Gregg Clarke of Mooresville, NC and Kelly Smith Emerson with husband Scottie Emerson of Winston-Salem, two nieces, Stephanie Gregg and Alicia Frizzell, two nephews Jerry Gregg and Samuel Smith, one grand nephew Kayman Gregg and one grand niece Reagan Spiegel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday December 19th at Westlawn Mausoleum Chapel with the Reverend John Jackman officiating. The family will receive friends forty-five minutes before the service in the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made in honor of Eric to Trinity Moravian Church or Anthony's Plot. Of course at this time of year the residents of Southfork Assisted living are in need of Christmas items. Eric would be honored if anyone chooses to go by the facility located at 1345 Jonestown Rd. in Winston-Salem, NC 27103 and pick an ornament off the ""needy"" Christmas tree at the door and leaves the much needed gifts in his memoriam.
