LEAGANS Mrs. Emma Gray Whitman Leagans, 98, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Leagans was born on September 25, 1913 in Forsyth County to the late Julius and Estella Kearney Whitman. She was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church. Preceding Mrs. Leagans in death is her husband, Sidney M. Legans, Sr., her parents, three brothers and a sister. Surviving Mrs. Leagans are a daughter, Shirley Hughes of Winston-Salem; two sons, Sidney Leagans of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lawrence ""Larry"" Leagans and wife, Jane of North Myrtle Beach, SC; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at Northwoods Baptist Church at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 10, 2012 with the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Northwoods Baptist Church, 5204 Old Walkertown Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
