Miss Elsie Moore, known to everyone as “Granny” was born on May 7, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, the third of six children born to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Wilma Beatrice Moore. Elsie was called home on February 4, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
She attended Firnwood Elementary, Harlem High School, and Dawson Technical School in Chicago and retired from Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home where she was head cook and dietary supervisor.
Elsie loved the Lord and confessed in Christ at an early age. She was baptized in Jesus name at Faith Tabernacle A.O.H. Church of God where she was a member of the choir. She later joined the House of Refuge Apostle Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Ronald Nelson.
Elsie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed listening to music and had a passion for singing. At the age of 15 she was offered a record deal.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Tayshawn Moore; siblings, Theodore Moore, Sharon Garner, Elizabeth Moore, Gary Moore, James Moore, and Angela Butler; maternal grandparents, Charles and Jeanette Rawls; paternal grandparents, George Moore and Erma Lee; nephews, John Garner, Wayne Moore, Gary Garner, and William Moore.
Left to cherish Elsie’s memory are her children, Antoinette Brooks (Brandon), Annette Hurt, Anthony Moore, Antwan Moore (Sara), Curtis Moore, Derrick Moore, Davet Moore (Letisha Hayes), Eric Moore (Raven), and Aaron Moore (Liz); grandchildren, Brandin Moore, Javon Tucker, Ladonta Tucker, Marcus Potts, Mia Potts, Anthony Moore, Jr., Cecil Moore, Bradley Moore, Simone Moore, Dominique Moore, Gabriel Moore, Miguel Moore, Annette Moore, Shakira Moore, Myia Brown, Lia Moore, Davet Moore, Jr., Ahaniya Moore, Shaniya Moore, Kay’loni Moore, Eric Moore, Jr., Lazeris Moore, Myantai Sumrall, Tyrissa Moore, Sebastian Moore, London Matthews, Kristian Moore, Mercedes Swisher, Jayden Calloway, Kayley Calloway, Lymon Jackson, Aaron Moore, Jr., Lyric Moore, and Melody Moore; bonus grandchildren, Marcus James and Mariana Spivery; and great grandchildren, Brandin Draine, Miles Potts, and Braylin Houston.
Elsie is also survived by her siblings, Rose Moore, Rhonda Moore, and Martell Snipes; nieces and nephews, Sharice Garner, Wilma Moore, Jeanette Wesley, Siemone Moore, Shanita Ames, Yolanda Moore, and Destiny Lockridge; aunts and uncles, Willi Mae, James House, Celestine Jessup, and Brian Jessup; and special friends, Lois, Sheila, Betty, and Robin.
A homegoing celebration will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
