Elsie Mae Simmons Pyrtle

PYRTLE Rural Hall- Mrs. Elsie Simmons Pyrtle, 92, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Springwood Care Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Stokes County on January 14, 1917 to the late Augustus Caney ""A.C."" Simmons and Maggie Nelson Simmons. Mrs. Pyrtle was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Rural Hall for more than 60 years. She retired from Hanes Hosiery with 29 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Leo Pyrtle in 1998. Mrs. Pyrtle is survived by two daughters, Daisy P. Frieze of Arcadia, California and Doris P. Peeler of Eatonton, Georgia, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a sister, Shelby Gregory of Advance. Funeral services for Mrs. Pyrtle will be conducted at 2:30 pm Saturday, July 18, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Rural Hall with Rev. Keith McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening, July 17, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
