Elsie Edna Higginbotham

Elsie Edna Copeland Higginbotham, 75, of Winston-Salem passed away January 10, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Harry and Elsie Copeland. She was preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Higginbotham. Elsie always appreciated her neighbors on Hollyrood Street and the staff of RiteAid Drugs in Parkway Plaza for their friendship and fellowship. Elsie is survived by her brother, Harry Copeland, Jr. and wife Cathy of Davenport, FL; a daughter, Karen Byrd and husband Gary of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Jo Anne Legacki of Cary; a son, James Bruce Higginbotham and wife Rhonda of Powder Springs, GA; a son, Alan Lamar Higginbotham and wife Sharon of Cumming, GA; twelve grandchildren, Joey Byrd, Ceana Legacki, Tommy Legacki, Elizabeth Legacki Nutter, Karen Legacki, Ryan Higginbotham, Caleb Higginbotham, Quinn Higginbotham, Tommy Higginbotham, Daniel Higginbotham, Timothy Higginbotham, and Samantha Higginbotham; a great-granddaughter, Danika Legacki. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Elsie's Homecare provider, Vernell Miller and nurse practitioner, Patricia Kearney and the staff at Senior Care. A special thank you is given to the staff in CCU at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for their kindness during Elsie's brief stay and to the Palliative Care Unit nurses Nancy, Marty, and Tiffany (CNA), as well as Dr. Bain for making these last days for Elsie dignified and peaceful.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Winston-Salem Rescue Mission or to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
