Mrs. Elsie Hartman Foster, 87, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at her home. She was born September 9, 1921 in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late,, Elser Emory and Annie Bell Holden Hartman. Mrs. Foster was a longtime member of Hanes United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was a 1938 graduate of Mineral Springs High School and retired from Piedmont Federal Savings and Loan following 30 years of service. She served with the US Marine Corp during World War II. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irving Cope Foster, a sister, Ruth H. Pinnix and a brother, Buddy Hartman. Survivors include three sisters, Juanita H. Jones of Galax, VA, Geraldine H. Dixon and husband, Phil of High Point and Pat H. Butler and husband, Harold of Winston-Salem; numerous nieces and nephews and two special friends, Pam Swinney and Maria Lankford. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 am at Hanes United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlie Sparks and Rev. Don Ashe officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
