Elsa Giraldo- Fernandez

Mrs. Elsa Giraldo - Fernandez (Maru), of Advance, NC, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the age of 59.
Elsa was born to parents, David and Leticia Giraldo on Feb 29, 1956 in Bogotá, Colombia. She grew up as the sixth of eight children and graduated from Liceo Moderno Femenino in Bogotá. In 1985, she married Oscar Fernandez and had four children. In 1999 her husband took a position with Ingersoll Rand in Mocksville, NC and the family moved to Advance, NC. Elsa was a talented artist and completed several murals, faux finishes and ceiling decorations for homes in the Charlotte, Concord and Piedmont areas. She was a volunteer with the decoration committee at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.
Elsa was a very creative and resourceful artist, always interested in trying new techniques. When diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, she remained dedicated in her work and in her will to fight her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months.
Elsa was preceded in death by her father, David and her brother, Ariel.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar; her children, Sebastian, Diego, Lina and Sergio; her mother, Leticia; her siblings, Jorge, Beatriz, Guillermo, German, Eduardo, Juan, and their children. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 25th at 11:00 a.m, followed by remembrance hospitality.
