COLFAX – Eloise Goins McCollum, 94, reached her heavenly home Tuesday, May 21, 2024, just five days shy of her 95th birthday. Eloise was born on May 26, 1929, in Stokes County to Charley Vester and Lula Hooker Goins. Eloise was known for her country cooking, especially her biscuits and chicken thighs. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt who will truly be missed.
Eloise was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Cordell McCollum; brothers, James Goins, Billy Goins, Bobby Goins, Mathew Goins, Raymond Goins, and Ernest Goins; and sisters, Avis Hamilton, Gladys Godfrey, Alma Beasley, Edith Sineath, and Ethel Patterson.
Surviving are her son, Mike McCollum (Becky); her daughter, Donna Key (Ronnie); five grandchildren, Travis McCollum (Sara), Chris McCollum, Cassie McCollum, Bobby Key, and Brittany Key; three great grandchildren, Ella, Luke, and Tate McCollum; one sister, Bernice Knight; and special niece, Sue Clark.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Pastors Bruce Freeman and Neil Poole officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
