Mr. Elmer Franklin Wood, 69, of Lewisville passed away October 25, 2008 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Wood was born in Summers County to the late Alva and Elva Lowry Wood on September 2, 1939. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Lewisville. Mr. Wood retired from McLean Trucking with 26 years of service and also Grass America with 18 years of service. Mr. Wood was an Army veteran. He was active in the Jonestown Civic Club where he served as a past Vice President and President. Mr. Wood was a true Mountaineer fan who was proud of his home state of West Virginia. He enjoyed singing gospel music, playing horse shoes, and bowling. Mr. Wood will always be remembered for his positive attitude and his strong faith in God, which gave him the strength and courage in his battle of cancer. He never knew a stranger and will be loved and missed by many. Mr. Wood is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Norma Wood of the home; three children Terry Bishop and husband Keith of Mooresville; Patricia Draughon of Wilmington; and Greg Ellison of Clemmons; five grandchildren Britton and Grayson Bishop; Hunter and Breanna Ellison; and Dusty Draughon; three sisters Jean Garten of Forest Hill, WV, Betty Smith of Moscoe, ID; and Ruby Bradley of Pfafftown; a brother Al Wood of Bloomfield Hill, MI; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Bud Owen and Paul Dodd officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
