Mr. Elmer Lee ""Pete"" Opengari, 86, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Opengari was born on June 25, 1929, in Bristol, Virginia to Pete and Ida Sharett Opengari. Pete served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Washington Post Newspaper with many years of loyal service. Mr. Opengari was also a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean Atkinson Opengari of the home; one son, Roger L. Opengari and wife Gwen of Pfafftown, NC; two grandchildren, Michael Lee Opengari and wife Kayla of Lexington, NC and Heather Opengari Tucker and husband Brad of Clemmons, NC; one great granddaughter Madison Tucker also of Clemmons; and two brothers, Bill Opengari of Virginia, and Jerry Opengari and wife Susan of Bristol, VA. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Brett Kitko officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to give special thanks to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the professional care that they provided to Mr. Opengari. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Home at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
