Mr. Elmer ""Skipper"" Gwyn Jarvis, 88, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008. He was born April 18, 1920 in Guilford County to the late Harvey ""Boss"" Harrison Jarvis and Virginia Nichols Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis was a founding member of Twin City Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir. His life exemplified the true walk of a Christian man. Mr. Jarvis served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as an aircraft mechanic stationed on the Island of Guam. He received the American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, good conduct medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Mr. Jarvis enjoyed traveling, camping, and watching the Atlanta Braves. Preceding him in death was a sister, Loraine Jarvis and a brother, Lamar R. Jarvis. Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Loree York Jarvis; daughter, Lynn Jarvis Stone and husband Larry of Boonville; granddaughter, Julie Loree Stone of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter, Hilda Jarvis Green and husband Ethan of Kennesaw, GA; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jinkins and husband Jay and Emily Heffinger and husband, Trey all of Kennesaw, GA; a great-grandson, James Heffinger; sister Dare Jones of North Wilkesboro; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Timothy Wolfe and Rev. Doug Couch officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Boonville United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 178 Boonville, NC 27011.
