Elmer Leon Shorty" Flinchum

Winston Salem-Elmer Leon ""Shorty"" Flinchum, 81, loving husband, and father, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1928 in Stokes Co. to the late Ham McCoy and Lillian Moorefield Flinchum. Mr. Flinchum was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 35 ½ years of service. Shorty was a founding member of the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department, and he was a former Assistant Scout Leader for Troop 779 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, and three sisters. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marlene Pope Flinchum of the home; his daughter, Vickie Marie Flinchum; and his son, Derwin Flinchum both of Winston Salem; and a sister, Lennis Banner of Germanton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 04, 2010 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Patricia Lewis and Rev. E.W. Hooven officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
