Ellen Huffstetler Ringer, wife of James Edward Ringer, died peacefully in East Bend, NC on February 3, 2023. Daughter of the late William Robert Huffstetler and Lillian Phillips Huffstetler, she was born on June 8,1942 in Rock Hill, SC. Ellen graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1960 and Winthrop College in 1963 and 1977. Most of her career was spent teaching Latin and English at JH Rose High School (Greenville, NC). Lovingly referred to as “Granny”, she is survived by her two daughters: Jean Ringer Cannon (Paul) of Cramerton, NC, and Dr. Leigh Ringer Summer of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Sarah Summer, Kayleigh Cannon, Sam Summer and Hannah Cannon; brother, Ed Huffstetler of Rock Hill, SC; sister, Myra Bonner of Pfafftown, NC and numerous friends and extended family. Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, Doug Huffstetler of Rock Hill, SC. Ellen volunteered readily and often at Woodland United Methodist Church, St James United Methodist Church and Clemmons United Methodist Church. She was always involved with multiple service organizations, including Rock Hill Junior Women’s Club, (Backpack filling), Girl Scouts, and leading MYF. Throughout her career, she taught at Chamblee High, Alexander Graham Junior High, Rock Hill High, York Technical College, and J. H. Rose High school. During her teaching career, Ellen spent many hours mentoring students, focusing on the student that may need a little extra help getting into college, prepping for a test or figuring out a life problem. Her office and classroom were always a safe haven for any student in need. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Clemmons United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church Youth Mission Program (3700 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank friends, family and the caregivers of Duke Health and Trellis Supportive Care for their support during Ellen’s battle with uveal melanoma. Ellen would like her friends and family to know “I love each of you very much. God be with you.
