Ella Mae Smith-Vanhoy

Mrs. Ella Mae Smith-Vanhoy, 84, formerly of Walkertown, left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 31, 2010. She was born in Surry County the daughter of the late Rassie and Sadie Scott. Ella Mae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker, who always cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands, Thurman A. Smith in 1994 and Junior Vanhoy in 2007, one brother, Charles Scott and one sister, Ruby Rogers. She is survived by her son, Tom Smith and wife Elaine of Yadkinville, her daughter, Kathy Thompson and husband Ted of Germanton, six grandchildren, Tommy Smith and wife Melinda, David Smith, Jason Smith, Daniel Smith and wife Susan, Kristi Watkins and husband Brad and Kim Thompson, six great-grandchildren, one sister, Marie Stoltz-Pinnix, one brother, Conrad Scott and wife Joyce, four sisters-in-law, Helen Scott, Reba Hall, Mickey Smith and Ginny Smith and one brother-in-law, Ray Rogers. Funeral services for Ella Mae will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Bill Currie and Rev. Gary Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening, January 2, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall and at other times at the home of her daughter in Germanton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Hospice of Stokes, 235 North Main Street, Walnut Cove, NC 27052. The family would like to give a special thanks to Marla Smith and Shelia Cook of Hospice for the loving care shown to their loved one during her time of need.
