Mrs. Elizabeth Parrish Whicker, 99, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 4, 1918 in Forsyth County to Lillian Ogburn Parrish and William Rutherford Parrish. She went to college at Brevard and later UNC-Greensboro. She supported the war effort by working at the Carbon Plant in Winston-Salem, inspecting ammunition and detonators for the Army. Mrs. Whicker was a member of Crews United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and taught several Sunday School classes. She retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools after 30 years of service. Mrs. Whicker was preceded in death by her husband, William Donald Whicker; three brothers, Rutherford O. Parrish, Paul L. Parrish, Sr. and William Parrish; and three sisters, Rachel Platt, Ellen Fulk and Peggy Byrd. Surviving are her two sons, Tom Whicker and Don Whicker and wife Martha Hudson; a granddaughter, Tamara Smith and husband Claude; and two great grandsons, Camron and Collin. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Crews United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Camp officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
