Winston-Salem-Elizabeth ""Nell"" Brown Vestal, 79, of Winston-Salem died October 4, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Nell was born September 5, 1930 in Marion County, SC to the late Rufus Rudolph Brown and Tommie Ellanora Proctor Brown. Nell worked doing Antique shows and malls for many years. She was a very special, loving woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She did everything she could for a friend or family member in need. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 55 years, Conard Leonard ""C.L."" Vestal who died on May 8, 2006; three sisters, Josephine Lewis, Victorine Brown and Irene Richardson; four brothers, Howard Brown, Aubrey Brown, Palmer Brown and Ottis Brown all of Marion, SC. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Vestal Byrd and husband Dennis W. and Sherry Vestal Holt and husband Ronnie W. all of Winston-Salem; grandson, Chris M. Byrd and wife Melissa; granddaughter, Brittany L. Holt; a great-grandson, Nicholas M. Byrd all of Greensboro; two sisters, Lillian Williamson of Conway, SC and Judy Smithey and husband Howard of Marion, SC; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Hepler of Harmony and Margaret Pendergrass of Mocksville, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends and her loving canine companion, Pierre. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Forsyth Memorial Park with Chaplain Meghan McSwain officiating. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 PM today, October 5 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In memory of our loving Mother, and ""Nanny"" as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and great grandson, please donate your time, money or even a meal for the families that have loved ones at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. We want to thank the staff and volunteers who helped take care of Nell and were there for her family and friends.
