Elizabeth Doyle Simmons

Mrs. Elizabeth Doyle Simmons, 78, of Clemmons, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at her residence. She was born September 6, 1933 in Forsyth County to Harry Douglas and Beulah Speer Doyle. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. She retired from AT&T after 32 years of service. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, going to the beach, going out to eat, traveling with her husband and dear friends Nell and Edwin Craft and being at home. She enjoyed collecting depression glass, Hallmark ornaments, and coins for her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Milas Grant Simmons; and two brothers, Charles and Paul Doyle. Surviving are one son, Keith Simmons and wife Missy of Lewisville; one daughter, Dr. Carolyn J. Simmons and partner Bill Sweeny of Crozet, VA; grandchildren, John Simmons Daws of Baltimore, MD, Seth Doyle Simmons and Thomas Ausband Simmons, both of Lewisville; a brother, Gene Doyle and wife Betty of Apex; sister-in-law, Marie Chatman and husband Grady of Winston-Salem and brother-in-law Wayne Simmons and wife Sally of Yadkinville; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her caregivers Carmen Long and Kashemi Larner as well as to her loving neighbors Linda and Horace Cox. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22 at Sharon United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Freeman and the Rev. Don Sigmon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 pm Friday, October 21 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
