Elizabeth Chilton Rhodes

Mrs. Elizabeth Chilton Rhodes, 84, of Germanton died Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Brian Center in Statesville. She was born November 26, 1927 in Westfield, the daughter of the late, James R. and Annie Collins Chilton. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She retired from Hanes Hosiery following 42 years of service and was a member of the Forsyth County Republican Women's Club and Freedom Works. She loved gardening and traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Elwood Rhodes. Survivors include one son, John David Rhodes of Germanton; one daughter, Diana Rhodes Hicks and husband, John of Statesville; one sister, Mary Sue Underwood and husband, Harry of Winston-Salem; one brother, James B. Chilton and wife, Peggy of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews and lifelong friends, Lucille Marshall, Betty Wilson and Sue Tuttle and special friends, Joyce and Krissi. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway.
