Elizabeth Benson Johnson

Elizabeth Benson Johnson, widow of Arthur Richardson Johnson, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:30 PM at Salem Cemetery with Rev. Craig Ford officiating. She was the youngest of seven children born January 31, 1923, to Clarence Linwood Benson and Lula Ward Benson. She graduated from Greensboro College in 1944, and did graduate work in Social Work at the University of Richmond. She married Arthur Richardson Johnson in 1947, and they later moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1958, where he was an owner and pharmacist at Flynn's Drug Store. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was involved in may volunteer activities and was an avid bridge player. She was a wonderful mother and friend to many. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, quick wit, and positive attitude. She is survived by her daughters Beth Brown (Wayne) of Columbia, SC and Terry Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC, grandson Taylor Brown (Brittney) and great grandson, Tanner Wesley Brown. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Richardson, son Linwood Thomas Johnson, and grandson Wesley Richardson Brown.
