Elizabeth "Ann" Best

Elizabeth ""Ann"" Best passed away peacefully on the morning of November 15, 2015, in her home at Arbor Acres. She was 92. Born in Lock Haven, PA, she was the youngest of 7 children. She received her RN degree from nursing school in Williamsport and worked briefly in a Pittsburgh hospital during WWII as a nurse. However, she quickly discovered a love for travel, and enrolled in aviation school in Kansas City after the war. Raising her family of 2 daughters and a son, though, soon became her focus and passion. As her children got older, she ventured into other careers, such as one of the first female salespeople for Fuller Brush in Winston-Salem, a travel agent for Dick Anderson Travel, and finally retiring from MetLife as an insurance agent. She loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. She also enjoyed playing Bridge, and treasured the friendships she made throughout the years. Shortly after retirement, Ann volunteered with Crisis Control Ministries. She was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church, and previously Mt. Tabor Methodist where she played in the hand bell choir, and before that at Wesley Memorial UMC. Ann was preceded in death by her son William ""Bill"" Best, her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Best, and Janet Best Rigsbee and husband Richard; 3 grandchildren, Rachel, Sean, and Tyler Boyd; 2 great grandchildren, Sage and Elijah; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Al Bianucci and his children, Annette Turner, Tina Brabandt-Chadwick, and John Bianucci. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Maple Springs United Methodist Church on Reynolda Rd. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
