Elham "Ellie" Mankaryos

Elham “Ellie” M. Gendy Mankaryos, 77, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Ellie was born in Luxor, Egypt to Morcos and Karima Gendy. She was the second of six children. Ellie lived half her life and completed her education in Cairo, Egypt until she came to the United States in 1981. She spent all her adult life working in an accounting firm in Cairo, then was employed in retail and the banking business in the United States where she enjoyed meeting new people every day. Ellie was a faithful member of Parkway Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. Ellie raised two very successful children, Sameh Mankaryos and his wife Lisa of Cornelius, NC and Nora Thomas of Charlotte, NC. She was a very proud grandmother to her grandsons Logan Mankaryos and Christopher Thomas. She was preceded in death by her father who died in 1981 in Cairo, Egypt and her mother who died in 2008 in Winston-Salem, NC; and brother, Moe Gendy and his wife Sue Gendy. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Ellie is survived by three brothers, Mark and Mona Gendy of Rural Hall, Michael and Marie Gendy of King and Maher and Pam Gendy of King; one sister, Ebtesam and Atef Takla of Durham; and eleven nieces and nephews who she very much enjoyed spending time with.  A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 1000 Yorkshire Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106, with Dr. Thom Burleson officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
