Mrs. Elender (Ellie) Elizabeth Cook Gobble, age 90, left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on March 22, 2011. She was born June 21, 1920 in Forsyth County to William Wade and Lillie Dalton Cook. She married Willis McCoy Gobble on December 24, 1938. Mrs. Gobble retired from Hanes Knitting Mill and was raised in the ""Hanes Town"" community where her father ran a boarding house for the Hanes Mill workers. She was the oldest charter member of Hanes Baptist Church and attended as long as her health permitted. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved cooking for her family and was known for her delicious deserts. Although she had lost most of her words and speech, she could still find her voice to say the blessing, sing a song and laugh with a twinkle in her bright blue eyes. Preceding her in death are her parents; three brothers, James, Tom and Clarence Cook. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Willis; two sons, Doug Gobble and Jimmy Gobble (Sandra); three grandchildren, Randy Gobble (Sharon Simon), Lori Johnson (Jeff), and Michelle Mitchell (Erik); three great granddaughters, Hayley and Makenley Mitchell and Caroline Johnson; one sister, Nettie Mae Ferrell. Funeral services for our beloved mother and Granny will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday March 25, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. J. B. Parker and Rev. Ron Groce officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday March 24, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Hanes Baptist Church, 4210 Sabrina Lake Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to her church friends, Imogene Howard, Lois Anders and Opal Stewart. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
