Mrs. Eleanor D. Flower of Winston-Salem died on February 19, 2015, at Homestead Hills Assisted Living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born on October 10, 1918 in Belle Mead, New Jersey. Mrs. Flower grew up on a dairy farm in Belle Mead. After graduating high school, she worked for Sherwin-Williams as a senior secretary for nine years (and used a teletype machine to relay messages). Mrs. Flower married William A. Flower on October 6, 1945. They raised four children and owned a 96-acre dairy farm called Mile Long Farm in Neshanic Station, New Jersey. After raising her family, Mrs. Flower returned to work in 1967 at Durling Farms Dairy as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1982. Throughout her retirement years, she toured many countries worldwide. Mrs. Flower was an avid bowler and was also a great fan of baseball and other sports. She was a skilled hand quilter and made hundreds of colorful quilts. Mrs. Flower also enjoyed reading fiction, biographies, and history books. In her younger years, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Neshanic, New Jersey, serving as Sunday School secretary and treasurer to the Women's Society for many years. Mrs. Flower is survived by her four children: Douglas W. Flower of Boston, MA; Carol Flower Coddington and her husband, Keith Coddington, of Alexandria, PA; Gary A. Flower of Clemmons, NC; and Judy Flower Reins and her husband, Blair Reins of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kate B.
