Eldridge Helsabeck Smith

Mr. Eldridge Helsabeck Smith, age 82 of Advance, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  He was born June 19, 1941 in Davie County to the late Elbert Helsabeck Smith and Pearl Spillman Smith. 

 He worked at AMP incorporated (Tyco International Ltd) for 32 1/2 years. He was an A-toolmaker trouble shooter and he was known to make progressive dies run like a Cadillac. He was a life long music player and played with the Elmer Dunn Band for 13 years by playing music at nursing facilities until the Covid Pandemic started. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Trudy Smith McDaniel and one brother, Gary Preston Smith.  He is survived by his wife, Betty “Lou” Smith; one daughter, Paula S. Lewis (Jr.) of Advance; one sister, Gail Smith Gregory (Leonard) and several nieces and nephews.   A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.  Burial will follow in Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be to the National Kidney Foundation in his honor.   Online condolences may be made at Hayworth - Miller Funeral Homes & Crematory
