Elaine Sowers Strider

Mrs. Elaine Sowers Strider, 70, of 351 Orchard Park Drive, Bermuda Run, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 10, 1941 in Forsyth County to Robert Ray and Helen Carter Sowers. She graduated from UNC-G in 1963 and received her Masters Degree from NC A&T in 1975. A lifelong resident of Davie County, she retired in 1997 as Director of Curriculum for the Davie County School System. She served on the board of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She was an active member of the Bermuda Run Ladies Golf Association and was an avid bridge player. Elaine is survived by her husband, Dawson Strider of the home; a daughter, Dawn Aldrich (and husband Tom); 2 grandchildren, Aiden Aldrich and Lily Stewart (and Lily's father, Michael Stewart); and a sister, Gaye Wade. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel by Rev. Cheryl Skinner. The family will receive friends following the service.
