Elaine Ray

Mrs. Elaine Clark Ray passed away peacefully at her home on September 26, 2021 at the age of 91. Elaine was the seventh of eight children born on August 30, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when she was a child.

On September 10, 1948 Elaine married the love of her life Kenneth John Ray in the Salt Lake City Temple. Elaine loved children and together they raised 9 of their own. One day she started babysitting some twins for a friend and somehow that grew into a huge in-home daycare. Who knows how many children she loved and cared for over many years. She operated her day care until she retired. She and Kenny lived in Utah and New Mexico. They moved to North Carolina in 1970 where she lived until 2011 when she moved to Loganville, GA.

Elaine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and her life was full of service. Over the years she held many callings in the church and she also served many years in the Atlanta and Raleigh Temples.

She is preceded in death by her parents Omar and Anna Clark and all of her siblings. She is also preceded by Kenny, her sweetheart of 73 years, her oldest son Steve, her youngest son Eric, her son in law, Paul, her daughter in law Nene’ and two grandsons, Jonathan and Eran.  She is survived by 7 children, Sue Peck, Richard Ray (Bertha), Michael Ray (Kelly), Nancy Goodyear (Bob), Tom Ray (Kim), Diana Gomez (Frank), and Jeff Ray (Beth). She is also survived by a legacy of many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday October 1 at 1:00 pm at the Winston-Salem Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 4780 Westchester Road. Immediately following the service, there will be a private family graveside service at Parklawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to give a special thanks to their sister Nancy.  She and Bob opened their home and their hearts to Elaine and loved and cared for her and provided a wonderful home for her for the last 10 years of her life. We love and appreciate you!
