Efroy Green

Efroy “Fred” Green passed away peacefully on March 24, 2023, surrounded by family, at the age of 96 years and 179 days. He was born on September 25, 1926, to Samuel and Molly Green in Queens, New York. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mildred Dirscherl Green; and his sons, Bruce Green (Maureen) and Steven S. Green. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Steven Dirscherl (Elaine) and Deanna Pounder (Anthony); nephew, Herold Dombeck (Cindy); niece Elaine Robbin, and additional nieces and nephews. He was a proud man of six grandchildren, Amanda Longoria (Jose), Jonathon Oliver (Toni), Samantha Eyers (Michael), Katrina Dantism (Saeid), Bryan Dirscherl, and Raheem (Ray) Pounder; and ten great-grandchildren, Owen, Sarah, Quinn, Amelia, Ethan, Romann, Isaac, Xavier, Ayden, and Andrea. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sydell (d.1991); his daughter Ann (d.2000); his parents, Samuel and Molly; and his siblings, Walter, and Florence. Fred was also one of the last remaining service members of World War II. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC, with Rabbi Andrew Ettin officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Written condolences may be sent to M.
