Winston-Salem- Effie Victoria Wright Smith, 105, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 21, 2011. She was born in Surry County to the late Albert N. Wright and Mary Frances Tickle Wright on December 24, 1905. She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem. She was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church. ""Grandma"", as she was known in her later years, loved to garden and raise flowers. She made the best cakes anyone could eat. She loved to travel with her grandchildren. She ran a boarding stable for over 35 years, where a lot of kids grew up and learned to be responsible for taking care of horses. When you would go visit, you might find Grandma out in the pasture fixing fences or picking blackberries. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her son, Charles Lester Smith, Sr. and her daughter, Betty Jean Smith Loggins, and three brothers, George, Charlie, and Jasper Wright. She is survived by two sisters, Pearl Needham and Katie Gilbert and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brenda L. Mendenhall (Gary), Roger D. Loggins (Nancy), Robert W. Loggins (Melanie), Randy S. Loggins (Susan), Charles L. Smith, Jr. (Sue), Vickie S. Sivalski (John), Karen S. Masencup (Steve), and Mary Ann Harper (Dean); sixteen great-grandchildren, Timothy and Steven Mendenhall (Jennifer), Roger D. Loggins, Jr., Daniel S. Loggins, Zachary R. Loggins (Tiffany), Miranda L. Parnell (Chris), Wendy and Darren Loggins, Kevin (Melissa), Matthew, and Ashley Smith, Jay Sivalski (Sheila), Eric Sivalski, Justin Masencup (Megan), Casey Masencup, and Jessica Fulcher; nine great-great grandchildren, Jynsen and Paisley Parnell, Alyssa, Trenton, Brendon, and Kristen Sivalski, Cooper and Wesley Masencup, and Bryce and Bella Fulcher. Other special people in her life were Thad R. Loggins and Willie S. Smith. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, July 25, 2011 at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with the Dr. Winford Hendrix officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to thank Alpha Healthcare of Lexington, Abbotts Creek Care & Rehab, The sixth floor staff at Forsyth Medical Center, all of the CNA's and day care workers who helped over the past years to take care of this very special lady ""Our Grandma"".
