Mr. Edwin Earl Martin, 89, of Walkertown went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August, 17, 2008. He was born March 24, 1919 in Walkertown to the late Luther Bert Martin and Lillian Morris Martin. Mr. Martin was retired from the Bahnson Company in Winston-Salem where he worked as a dedicated employee for 42 years. Mr. Martin was a 1938 graduate of Walkertown High School and a graduate of Draughns Business College. He helped organize the Walkertown Volunteer Fire Department in which he served for 54 years as a charter member of the Walkertown Rescue Squad. He loved music and was a gospel music promoter in the Winston-Salem area. Mr. Martin was a dedicated Christian and a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown for 49 years, where he sang in the choir. He was a very generous and outgoing person, who was known and loved by people far and wide. He had a reputation of trying to help people in need. Mr. Martin showed his Christian faith daily by his acts of love and service to his fellow man. He was a loving father, neighbor and friend. Mr. Martin will be missed by many and his tremendous contribution to the community will be remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 ½ years, Grace Seivers Martin, a brother Oliver Perry Martin and a sister, Elizabeth Lucille Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Earl Martin and wife Barbara of East Bend, Keith Jearl Martin and wife Jan of Oak Ridge, Kelvin Shearl Martin and wife, Tammy of Summerfield; four grandchildren, James Wesley Martin, Amanda Martin Montgomery, Andrew Ross Martin and Elizabeth Lee Martin; three great grandchildren, Jerry Montgomery, III, twins, Jordan Montgomery and Jaisen Montgomery and a brother, Albert Gray Martin and wife, Tiny Martin of Walkertown. Visitation will be Tuesday, August, 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20 at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown with Dr. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Martin will be placed in the Church 30 minutes before the Service.
