Edwin Thomas Dixon, Sr.

Mr. Edwin Thomas Dixon, Sr., 93, of Homestead Hills, Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Wake Forest Medical Center. Edwin was born on May 17, 1923 in Forsyth County to Freir Bradley and Olivia Thomas Dixon. Mr. Dixon served his country in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II having made numerous trips to the European Theater with supplies. He was a member of Friedland Moravian Church where he was a Trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Airsteam Trailer Club Carolina Unit for many years. Edwin retired from McLean Trucking Company with 28 years of loyal service. Mr. & Mrs. Dixon were summer residents at Linville Land Harbor in Newland, NC and Winter Residents at Melbourne, Fl. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Lee Byerly; five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Deanie Robertson Dixon; his daughter, Cheryl Dixon Byerly and husband Lee of Clemmons; son, Edwin T. Dixon, Jr. and wife Anne of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Katherine Toms and husband David and Charlotte Dixon, and one great granddaughter, Mabel Elizabeth Katherine Toms. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Friedland Moravian Church with Rev. Wayne Byerly officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
