Edward Wall

Ed was a hard worker that provided for his family in so many ways.  Those who met him saw a stern hard exterior, but those who knew him saw the softer, more loving side. His strong will and determination led to his hard work ethic.

After graduation from North Carolina State University with a degree in Agriculture, Ed farmed full-time for a year before joining RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He devoted 29 years before retiring and then spent the next 26 years filled with all the things he loved most; farming, fishing, and hunting.  Ed also loved to devote time to public service, including membership on the Forsyth County Soil and Water Conservation District and Farm Services Agency Community Committee.  In addition, he served as a member of the Forsyth County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, where he was Chairman of the Agricultural Scholarship Committee.  His love of agriculture led him to support the youth in Forsyth County by advocating and awarding scholarships to further their education by earning a degree in agriculture-related fields.

Of the many milestones celebrated, his family most cherished is the recent 60th Anniversary with his loving wife; Ed and Judy, married August 21, 1960. Ed was also a lifelong member of Kingswood United Methodist Church; Judy became a member following their marriage and return from Raleigh.

He loved his farm and the experiences it afforded him, such as the many years and miles traveled watching his daughters show horses. Weekends, holidays, and vacations were spent all across North Carolina and half-way across the country to multiple locations, feeding their love of horses and competitions.  His involvement did extend past the farm and agriculture, showing support for his son's love of model trains and desire to pursue culinary arts, making sure to eat at every restaurant he worked.  Ed wanted to ensure he showed his children how much he loved each one of them.

Perhaps the only thing he loved more was his grandchildren. Both grandsons played baseball, and he would attend almost every game. If he could not be there to cheer them on, he expected inning by inning updates on how things were going. For his favorite granddaughter, he encouraged her to nurture creativity from a young age. Though he had little interest in the usual pomp and circumstance associated with a night at the theatre, he attended several productions to support her passion for the arts.

He tended to his garden year in and year out. This year's crops are the last fruits and vegetables grown through his labor, but Ed's spirit and memory will be a part of many harvests to come. He did more than cultivate soil and plant seeds; he enriched the land and the individuals around him in a way that lasts. The garden will continue to grow, and so will many of those that he inspired. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond McKiver and Ruby Hardy Wall, and sister Cynthia Lou Wall. As well as several aunts and uncles.

Ed is survived by wife, Julia Martin Wall (Judy); daughter Julie Serber, and husband Marty; son Jimmy Wall; and daughter Jennifer Jobe, husband Brian; grandchildren Jamie Serber, wife Jessika, Courtney Serber, and Mac Jobe. Along with his great-grandchildren Cayden and Jaxon.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Crestview Memorial Park for family and close friends.  A memorial service will be held at a later date once Judy is able to attend; additional details will be announced once they are confirmed.
