Mr. Edward E. ""Ed"" Montgomery, 73, passed away peacefully at Forsyth medical center in Winston-Salem, NC on Sunday, September 26, 2010. Edward was born in Ararat, VA to Effie Florence (Gunnell) and Tyre Montgomery in 1937. Edward graduated in 1955 from Blue Ridge High School in Ararat, VA. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1956-1958 based in Germany. Edward was of the Baptist faith. Edward was employed for 31 years with RJ Reynolds tobacco company, retiring in 1991. He married his beloved wife Juanita (Hill) in 1958 and resided in King where they raised four children. They have been married 52 years. Edward loved life, his family and great friends he met over his years. He loved telling his grandchildren ""to always keep their head above the water"".During Edward's retirement years, his greatest enjoyments were making creative wood workings, stone masonry, country music and watching Nascar races which helped keep him going during his illness. Edward also crafted some of the finest wood work many people had ever seen.We will all miss Edward's presence among our daily lives along with his humor and wisdom, which he shared freely. Edward was predeceased by his parents and older sister, Dawn (Montgomery) East. Edward is survived by his wife, Juanita and four children, Debby (Nieberle), Dwayne and wife Rene, of Pilot Mountain, Melvin and wife Tracy, of Newton and Brad and wife Rhona of King. He also leaves his dear grandchildren: Jennifer Nieberle, Sonya (Nieberle) Snyder and husband Paul, Nickie Montgomery, Kasey Montgomery, Tyre Montgomery and one great-grandchild Braylin. Edward also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he really loved and cared for. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall by Pastor Ricky Craig with burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening September 28th from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
