Mr. Edward ""Ed"" Roger Green, Sr., 81, of Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, went home to his heavenly Father on February 27, 2017, after a brief illness. His last hours were spent surrounded by his family and close friends. Eddie graduated second in his class in the 1962 class of Wake Forest University Law School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of North Carolina in 1958, where he majored in history. Eddie was a diehard Carolina fan who begrudgingly was taken to the hospital in the midst of the UNC v Louisville game last week. His disappointment at missing the end of the game to go was redeemed by the fact that UNC came out victorious, and better yet, Duke lost their game. At the age of 26, Eddie began his career with the honor of being chosen to assist Judge Richard Preyer as his legal clerk. He then entered general practice with an emphasis on real estate and estate planning. Having served as Alderman for Forsyth County, Eddie continued his life in public service. Eddie diligently served his clients in his private practice until days before his death. He was the epitome of an ethical, unassuming man of few, well-chosen words. Eddie was a trustee and active member of the Gideons International Davidson North Camp, and an active member of Faith Church, Faith Fellowship class and Senior Saints Ministry. His favorite things in the world, other than frequent hugs from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were spring time rides on his favorite horse Jazzy and keeping his tractor tuned up for bush hogging. However, Eddie's first priority was family time with his wife of 60 years, Toby Johnson Green, who he is survived by along with his children, Robin G. Newell, Edward ""Chip"" Roger Green, Jr. and Kelly Green; son-in-law, Bob Newell, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Teresa Green; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia G. Sink; and brother-in-law, Ben L. Sink. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Faith Church, 1077 GumTree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with Pastor Mike Gates officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Faith Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, Davidson North Camp. P.O. Box 1598, Welcome, NC 27374.
