Edward Haywood Galyean

Mr. Edward Haywood Galyean (Charlie) was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on June 23, 2015. He was born in Carroll County Virginia to the late Guy Franklin and Bertha Upchurch Galyean on January 21, 1934. Edward was a beloved husband, dad and papa. He was a wonderful man full of love for people and nature, especially enjoying his garden area with many birds, and fish pond. He loved spending time with people and he never met a stranger. He was a talented wood worker, metal worker and craftsman, loving to work with his hands and taking pure pleasure in the creation of furniture. Later in life, he built custom bird houses which he gave to many he cared for. Charlie was a lover of blue grass music and attended as many jam sessions as possible. Charlie led an interesting life, having served in the US Army with a tour in Alaska. He was once the manager of the Circle M Zoo in Stuart, Virginia. Charlie's careers included an electrician for Ogburn Electric, Hennis Freight Lines for several years. In addition, he worked at Pilot Freight and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in the building and grounds maintenance department. Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara Cockerham Galyean; children Eddie Galyean (Sharon of King); Randy Galyean (Sheri of King); Kim Galyean Saleeby (David of Rural Hall). In addition 7 grandchildren Chris, Tori, Tanner, Jake Galyean, Whitley Paletta (Andrew), Stacey and Josh Saleeby and one great grandchild Ethan. Also surviving are three sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday June 27, 2:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Interment will follow at Rural Hall Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC. The family will receive friends Friday, June 26 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall. Charlie had a true love for flowers and they will be lovingly accepted or memorials may be made to the church that he attended, First Baptist Church of King, PO Box 481 King, NC 27021.
