Edward James Fuller

Mr. Edward James Fuller, 86, devoted husband and father, died on August 14, 2015, at Arbor Acres Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC. Married to Lillian Korbonits Fuller from 1952 to her death in 2007, they shared a loving marriage. Ed is survived by their children, Diane Hawes (Todd), Robert Fuller, and Nancy King (Chris); grandchildren, Beth Hawes, Jim Hawes (Garison), Mark Fuller and Anne Fuller; and great-grandson, Hunter Hawes. He was known, loved and respected for his honesty, hard work, common sense, generosity, friendship, wit and love of life. Ed earned BS and MS in physics from Fordham University. After serving in the army, he was awarded several patents during his career in electronic engineering. Ed's hobbies included photography, music, and hiking. His first priority was always his family. He played an active role in their lives, and was voted ""Father of the Block"" by the neighborhood kids. Ed was always active in volunteer work. He volunteered at schools, church, and many organizations including Crisis Control Ministry, radio station WFDD, Old Salem, Habitat for Humanity, AARF(animal rescue), IEEE(professional engineering society), Appalachian Mountain Club, and the Sierra Club where he led hikes for inner city youth. He and his wife actively raised monetary and material gifts for Children's Hope Alliance (formerly Grandfather Home for Children), which provides Christian love, healing, and a home for abused children. Ed lived a life loving and serving God and other people. He chose to find joy and gratitude, even in his toughest life situations. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Forsyth Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 3:30 pm on Tuesday in Robinson Hall at Arbor Acres. Donations in his memory can be made to Children's Hope Alliance, (www.childrenshopealliance.org). Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mr. Fuller.
