Edward Townes "Ed" Carter was born May 9, 1931, in Winston Salem, NC, the son of Jesse Conrad Carter and Helen Faircloth Carter. He was a graduate of Reynolds High School and attended Draughn's Business College, and Piedmont Bible College. Mr. Carter served with a Special Forces Detachment in the Korean War, training Republic of Korea troops. He retired in 1990 from Nestle Foods after 30 years of service. After retirement, he owned and operated Pignics Outdoor Catering. Mr. Carter was a charter member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church. He served as Acolyte for 23 years and taught the Fellowship Class for 38 years. He served as interim lay pastor of this church for 9 months in 1998 and the Immanuel Moravian Church for 4 months in 1999. Mr. Carter served on the Board of Homeland Missions for 4 years. He worked as a volunteer at Sunnyside Ministry for 25 years. Mr. Carter was a Life Member and past president of the Konnoak Hills Lions Club. During his years of service as a Lion he held several chairmanships at the District level. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Jack Stickley Fellow. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lucille Lancaster Carter, daughter Carol Carter Coates of Winston Salem, NC, daughter Cathy Carter Piner and husband Tom of Marshallberg, NC, granddaughter, Kristen Piner Springle and husband Ryan of Beaufort, NC, grandson Edward Trent Piner of Marshallberg, NC, great-granddaughter Peyton Hayes Springle of Beaufort, NC, and brother David Conrad Carter of Winston Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Conrad Carter, mother, Helen Faircloth Carter, and son-in-law, John Phillip Coates. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11am at The Salem Moravian Graveyard “God’s Acre”. The family has requested that memorials be directed to Konnoak Hills Moravian Church, 3401 Konnoak Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27127, or Sunnyside Ministry, 319 Haled St., Winston Salem, NC 27127.
