Mr. Edsel Cooke, 88, of Winston-Salem died peacefully at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on Thursday, December 8, 2011. He was born October 7, 1923 in Surry County to Garl (deceased) and Ina Neal Cooke. His mother recently celebrated her 107th birthday with Edsel, family, and friends. Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 50 years, Frances Stewart Cooke. He is also preceded in death by his brother Ray (Nancy). He is survived by two sisters Kathleen Satterfield (Ed) and Sue Vogler (Frank); a special sister-in-law, Magilene Doggett; special nieces Jane Pack, Joan Charles, Ellen Myers, and Tammy Foster; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edsel worked for the Department of Revenue for 30 years. He is a veteran of World War II and recently went on the Flight of Honor. Edsel & Frances lived for many years in Ashe County but remained members of First United Church of Christ in Winston-Salem, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 11 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens,3250 High Point Road with Rev. Elizabeth Horton and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. The family will greet friends at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway from 12:30-2:00 pm prior to the graveside service. Edsel enjoyed life to the fullest. His smile was contagious and his heart was open to all. He was a gentlemen that will live in our hearts forever.
