Mrs. Edna Ann Cady McKenzie, 75, of Lexington, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday December 31, 2023, at her home. Mrs. McKenzie was born in Queens, NY to the late Mr. Robert Roy Cady and Gertrude Gurnee. She lived in South Florida for many years before moving to North Carolina. Edna was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and one who everyone felt comfortable talking to. She taught us all honesty, morality, the ability to accomplish goals and most importantly to believe in yourself and never give up. To her friends and family she had a kind heart, was thoughtful and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was most proud of her family. She often said that she didn’t give her children the gift of life, life gave her the gift of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Michael McKenzie of Lexington; and her two daughters. Shannon Mills and her husband, Scott of Coconut Creek, Florida and Katherine Hargitt and her husband, Trever of Lexington, North Carolina and her grandchildren Samantha Mills, Robert Mills, C.J, Kelehar and Deklan Hargitt along with many nieces and nephews and extended family. Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents. A graveside service will be held on 9AM Friday January 5, 2024 at Salisbury National Cemetery with Father Sabastian Umouyo officiating. There will be no formal visitation held. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
