Mrs. Edith Walker Hunter, 95, of Gastonia, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Friday, January 26, 2012 at The Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC. She was born March 2, 1916 in Surry County, the daughter of the late Joe Preston and Nancy Welch Walker. Edith loved working with children. She worked for the Guilford County School System for over 25 years where she used her arts and crafts talent with kindergarten children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert R. Hunter, Sr. and her two sisters, Viola Brannock and Ruth Collier. Survivors include two sons, Randy Hunter and wife, Diane of Gastonia and David Hunter and wife, Margaret of Garner; and five grandchildren, Allen Hunter, Derek Hunter, Meg Hunter, Casey Hunter Earnhardt and Dr. Drew Hunter; three great-grandchildren, Katie Hunter, Gandy Earnhardt and Hunter Earnhardt. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Billy Hunter officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
