Edgar Alford

Kernersville- Edgar Vernon Alford, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021. He was born on August 13, 1934, in Forsyth County to the late Ross E. Alford and Avis E. Pearce Alford.

Mr. Alford graduated from James A. Gray Highschool. Following graduation Edgar went to work for RJ Reynolds for a short time. He later went to work for Western Electric/AT&T where he retired after many years of service. He also served in the National Guard.  He was an avid Wake Forest basketball and football fan. He was mentor to his brother Burch and a friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy West Alford; son, Ross Pearce Alford; stepfather, Doss E. Alford; and sister, Romona Cook Merrit.

Surviving are his two daughters Dawn Alford and Robin McCall (Billy); three granddaughters Lindsay Todd (Brantley), Carson McCall and Rachel Fink; two grandsons, Adam Alford (Pam), and Mason McCall; two great-grandchildren Trevor Todd and Pearson Todd; two brothers, Burch Alford, Ronnie Alford and wife, Carroll, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with RT. Rev. Lane A. Sapp officiating. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Alford family.
