Earnest Maynard Shelton

WALKERTOWN - Mr. Earnest 'Maynard' Shelton, 67, left peacefully to be with the Lord Friday, July 5, 2013 at his home. Maynard was born on April 13, 1946 in Rockingham County to the late Johnny A. and Minnie Lawson Shelton. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Maynard's wife, Linda, remained faithfully by his side during his years of illness. He enjoyed working with his hands and was an accomplished trailer mechanic. The love of his life was his grandchildren and he treasured his time with them. In addition to his parents, Maynard was preceded in death by two brothers, Worth and Akers Shelton. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Linda Ziglar Shelton, of the home; one daughter, Pam Spruill of Walkertown; one son, Scott Shelton of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Brittany, Kristi, Jessica and Joshua; three brothers, Lester Shelton of Concord, Curtis Shelton of Reidsville and Winford Shelton of Walkertown; one sister, Evelyn Riggs; Linda's brothers, Bill and Thomas Ziglar; her sisters Brenda Bowman and Doris Moffitt; and a special care giver, Deborah Wetmore, whom Maynard also loved dearly. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 8, at the funeral home.
