Earl Dittus

Earl David Dittus, 90, Earl sadly passed from our presence on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.  He was a loving husband to his wife Louise for 61 years, and an amazing daddy to his daughter, Lisa. His quick wit and funny stories will be sorely missed. He never knew a stranger and had the “Dittus” gift of gab. He was born on Nov 16, 1930 in Kentucky and grew up in the Junior Order Home orphanages in Tiffin, Ohio and Lexington, NC.  He loved his Homekid family and faithfully attended annual reunions every August and September.  He retired from the Winston-Salem Journal after working 40 years.  He was a linotype operator in his earlier years and later became the Ad Production manager.  He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Dittus Weaver and her husband Jimmy grandson Ian Kelly and wife Zenia and his great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and Homekids.  He is predeceased by his wife Louise Branham Dittus; his parents, Ella and George Dittus; brothers, Bud and Bobby; and sisters: Elizabeth “Sis”, Evelyn, Shirley, and Dorothy.  He will never be forgotten and will always remain in our hearts.  Arrangements are with Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Winston-Salem.  He will be cremated.  The Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 11th at New Friendship Baptist Church in Winston-Salem (4258 Old Lexington Road).  In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Junior Home Alumni, c/o Candis Adcock, 6087 Cox Mill Road, Sanford, NC 27332, or the American Children’s Home (c/o Kat Berrier,3844 NC-8, Lexington, NC 27292.) There will be a celebration of life reception following in the fellowship hall.  God be with you till we meet again.
