Dwight Lionel Gordon went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on May 20, 1924 in Four Oaks, NC to Roy F. and Irene Rose Gordon. Educated in the Winston-Salem schools, he graduated from James A. Gray High School in 1942. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. In 1981 he retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies, where he worked in both the Winston-Salem and Greensboro plants. When he was nine years old, he played in his first Easter Sunrise Service and with the exception of his years in the Navy, he continued to play for a total of 65 years. As a member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church he was a deiner, choir and band member. Dwight was a member of Wilshire Golf Association and enjoyed the fellowship of a great group of ""buddies"" there. His greatest joy was time spent with his family at the beach, in the mountains or at home. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were a son Dwight Michael; a brother Roy J. Gordon; a grandson Kevin David Todd; and a brother-in-law Eugene Sisk. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Betsy Nimmo Gordon; a daughter Cheryl (David) Todd of Myrtle Beach, SC; a son Robert Keith Gordon of Winston-Salem; a grandson Tate (Heather) Todd of Myrtle Beach, SC; great grandson Jones Tate Todd and great granddaughter Stella Katie Todd of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Mary Jean Sisk of Winston-Salem, Ruth (White) Hooker of Fayetteville, NC; brothers Charles (Nancy) Gordon of Greensboro, NC; and Ross (Angie) Gordon of Winston-Salem; brother-in-law James Nimmo of Seneca, SC; sister-in-law Emma Gordon of Winston-Salem; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:45 AM on Saturday, October 15 at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church with a service beginning at 12:00 noon at the church. Burial will be in God's Acre. The family wishes to thank the staff at Willowbrook Health Care Center in Yadkinville, NC for the loving care Dwight received.
