Winston-Salem – Dr. Tobias Neftali Castro, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. He was born on August 12, 1944, in El Salvador to the late Lucila Fuentes and Manuel Tobias Castro.

Born and raised in the small country of El Salvador, knowing very little English, young Tobias had big hopes to move to America and find the American dream. In 1970 He came to America, met his wife and discovered & received his greatest gift in life, Jesus Christ.

During his youth, in his free time, Dr. Castro loved riding motorcycles and horses and was quite accurate with his gun shooting. He was rather cultured as he loved to travel while he enjoyed visiting countries all around the world and was always up to experiencing new foods. He had a keen palate and could cook delicious meals with great finesse.

Dr. Castro loved to read and educate himself with medicine, nutrition, world history, current events, prophecy, and self improvement books. He became a self taught learner of many things through his avid reading, but more than anything was a student of the Word of God.

Prior to coming to the United States, Dr. Castro earned his degree in Accounting.

In 1973 He began His PRE MED Degree at Nassau Community College and finished his degree at Central Bayamon University in Puerto Rico in 1975. He later received his . M.D. in General Medicine in 1979 at the East Central University in San Pedro de Macoris, D. R.

Between his internships and career, his Medical experiences at the various hospitals included: Pediatrics, emergency room medicine, deliveries and C-section surgery assistance, blood work, practice of general medicine and patient management.

After many years of practicing medicine, Dr. Castro educated himself in how to aid the body and the thrive with nature and helped many people with his company ‘Castro Enterprises LLC’ in natural healing.

Upon receiving Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1970, Dr. Castro sought the Lord & became deeply rooted in his faith with his avid studying of the scriptures and his desire to serve his Savior. His 51 years of service to the Lord included: Sunday School teaching, deacon duties, starting a church plant, serving alongside his pastor in any capacity, soul winning & Sunday School Superintendent.

Dr. Castro was a philosopher, a mentor, a friend and a counselor to any and all that needed advice or wisdom. He was a peacemaker who united people together in the Love of God. His hospitality to others was unmatched. One of his greatest talents was to teach the Word of God. There are many speakers, but Dr. Castro had the ability to break down his teaching for all to understand and effectively communicate as he captured the hearts and minds of people from all over with his eloquence .

In addition to his parents, Dr. Castro was preceded in death by a sister Esperanza; and a daughter, Abigail Noemi Lafreniere.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sarah Patterson Castro; three daughters, Reina Mejia, Sarah Ruth Castro, and Esther Elisabeth Stock (Josh); twelve grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, two sisters, Griselda Castro, and Haydee Bejarano; and one brother, Boanerges Castro.

The family extends appreciation to his church Iglesia Bautista Luz del Evangelio and Gospel Light Baptist Church for their love and support through the years, as to which he was a member and servant for 20 years.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Gospel Light Baptist Church, as well as livestreamed on the link provided below or through the Gospel Light Facebook page, with the Rev. Matt Morrison and Rev. Ricardo Rosario officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:45 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to La Iglesia Bautista Luz Del Evangelio, 2917 Waughtown Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
