Dr. Robert "Bob" Zammit

Dr. Robert “Bob” Zammit, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born February 17, 1931 in Bergen, New Jersey. Bob graduated from Lyndhurst High School in New Jersey and later graduated from St Peter’s College in Newark, New Jersey and the Creighton Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. He spent four years at St Michael Hospital doing his residency and a one year surgical residency at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC. Bob practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1967-1996 in Winston- Salem delivering approximately six thousand babies. While on staff at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, he served as Director of the Division of Ob/Gyn for four years, Quality Assurance Committee, Executive Committee and President Elect of the staff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Antonia Schmidt Zammit; his first wife, Norma Mann Zammit and a brother, Joseph F. Zammit. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Susan Starling Zammit; three children, Jean M. Zammit, Joseph L. Zammit (Christa) and Barbara A. Waynick (Roger); five grandchildren; Whitney Zammit, Christopher Zammit, Max Lanning, Drew Lanning and Julie Waynick; one great granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth Lanning; a sister-in- law, Kim Hill and two brothers-in-law,Jay Greene (Julia) and Ronnie Greene; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2022 at St Leo The Great Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the mass from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at The Robert F. Miller Center, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
