Dr. Donald Roland Suttles, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2015. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, he was born in Cold Spring, Kentucky on November 14, 1929. His parent's Noah Elsworth Suttles and Bertha Viola Seward Suttles preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon Swafford, and Dorothy Kinsey as well as brother Richard. He was married on December 12, 1952 to JoAnn McMullen by Dr. D.B. Eastep at Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, Ky. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Phyllis JoAnn McMullen Suttles of the home. He leaves six children and their families: Daniel Mark Suttles (Gloria) of Lynchburg, Va.; Ruth Lydia Suttles Miller (Ted) of Winston-Salem, NC; Jonathan Thomas Suttles (Nancy) of Ellensburg, Wa.: Donna Elizabeth Suttles Waldo (Kevin) of Greenwood IN.; Joanna Lynn Suttles of Winston-Salem, NC.; and Stephen David Suttles (Tonya) of Winston-Salem, NC. Surviving are seven grandchildren, Danielle Suttles, Joseph Suttles, Katie Suttles Robbins (Travis), Hannah Suttles, Morgan Speigel, Nicholas Waldo, and Brittany Waldo Pollock (Easton). Also surviving are 4 great grandchildren, Natalie and Brenham Robbins; Ava Dussia and Landon Calvert (Speigel). He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He graduated from Ludlow high school as Salutatorian in Ludlow, Kentucky. He also attended The U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD., and the University of Maryland. He graduated from The University of Cincinnati with a BA degree in business, from Xavier University in Cincinnati with an MBA degree, and received his doctorate in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He worked in management for the Procter & Gamble Co., in Cincinnati, Ohio for 21 years. He worked for Piedmont Baptist College in Winston-Salem for 12 years in various positions and as Vice President. He was a consultant for Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools in Forest, VA. He taught accounting/management courses at the University of Cincinnati, Winston-Salem State University, Catawba College, John Wesley College and also Piedmont Baptist College. As a CPA he was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a certified management accountant, and a certified internal auditor. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, Ky. for 28 years, Salem Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC for 31 years, and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He was a Bible school teacher, a deacon, a trustee, and a lay preacher, and a member of the Gideons International, speaking often for them. He loved his Lord and studying/reading God's word, and was a prayer warrior. He is listed in Who's Who in the World. The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church on Tuesday October 6, 2015 from 5:00-7:00pm. Services to be held at Grace Baptist Church following visitation at 7:30pm with Pastor Ed Sears and Dr. Howard Wilburn officiating.
