Dr. James Harris Hampton, Jr., 81, of Lewisville, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at his home. He was born October 4, 1926 in Leaksville, NC to the late James Harris and Norva Moore Hampton. Dr. Hampton was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church where he served with many different ministries over the years. He graduated from Wake Forest College in 1948 with a B.S. Degree and graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1952 M.D. He served his internship at City Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem. Dr. Hampton then practiced for over 40 years in Lewisville. In retirement he volunteered with the Community Care Center. He was a past President of the Civic Club of Lewisville. He was greatly honored that the town of Lewisville proclaimed March 29, 1994 as Jim Hampton Day. He counted it as a great privilege to serve the town of Lewisville. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Martha H. Hampton, of the home; a daughter, Jan Hampton, of the home; a son, Greg Hampton and wife Maura, of Ambridge, PA; a sister, Mrs. Julia Hicks, of FL; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Dampier, of Winston-Salem, 2 nieces, Patrice Caudle, of Lewisville and Tina Dampier, of Winston-Salem; 2 nephews, Doug Dampier and wife Teresa, of Winston-Salem and Jerry Sumner and wife Mary, of FL; and 3 half sisters, Lena, Patti, and Teri. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday at Lewisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Bingham, Rev. Charles Turner and Rev. Tom Lee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel from 6 - 8 PM Monday.
