Dr. Andrew Steven Griffin, 53, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Andy was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. on November 8, 1956 to the late Freddie M. and Gretchen J. Griffin and grew up in Albemarle, N.C.. Andy graduated from Wake Forest University and WFU Bowman Gray School of Medicine, completed his residency at WFU Baptist Medical Center and practiced Urology in Winston-Salem for almost twenty-one years. Andy illustrated the virtues of generosity and compassion to everyone who was blessed to know him as a family member, physician, colleague and friend. He genuinely cared for everyone with the kindness and goodness of which he will be remembered. Andy loved his family and his work, cars, motorcycles and traveling. To cherish is memory, he leaves behind his wife of thirty years, Anita P. Griffin; his son, Andrew S. Griffin II, his daughter, Ashley G. Levers; his son-in-law, Trey Levers; his sister, Connie L. Griffin; his nephews, Craig Wilson and Bruce Wilson and his wife, Sally Wilson. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 5 from 7-9 p.m. at Ardmore Baptist Church. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Ardmore Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. William J. Ireland, Jr., Rev. G. T. Talton and Dr. Paul Mullen officiating. Memorials may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103, the Andy Griffin Prostate Health Fund at Forsyth Medical Center Foundation, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103 or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103. The family would to express their gratitude to their wonderful friends, the doctors and staff at the Derrick L.
