Dr. Bobby Maxwell Foster, 77, Pinehurst, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2010 surrounded by family. He was born on December 7, 1932 in Mocksville to the late Robert Lee and Sue Deadmon Foster of Davie County. Dr. Foster attended Mocksville High School, Catawba College, and entered Wake Forest University College of Medicine at the age of 19. While in medical school, he earned numerous academic honors and graduated in 1957. He completed post -graduate training at the U.S. Public Health Hospital on Staten Island, N.Y., and the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Cherokee, N.C., he also participated in a tutorial in cardiology at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. A native of Mocksville, Dr. Foster returned home in 1960 to practice medicine and later established the Davie Family Medical Center where he served as President. He was also Medical Director/Physician of Davie County Health Department and Davie County Health Care and Wellness Center in Mocksville, Assistant Clinic Professor of Family Medicine at Wake Forest University College of Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. From 2001 to 2003, he served as a physician at Physicians Elder Care in Winston-Salem, and in 2004 became owner and Medical Director of Sandhills Hospitality Medical Associates in Southern Pines, N.C. Among Dr. Foster's many professional achievements, he was a Certified Medical Director, earned certification of added qualification in geriatric medicine, and was recertified a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. Additionally, he was made a lifetime member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society, was a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity, and participated in numerous medical societies/associations. He dedicated himself to a continuous quest for professional development in order to better serve his patients. He had a passion for geriatrics, was a featured speaker at community events on the topic of preventative medicine for the elderly, and volunteered on the medical staff of Heart Y's Program and West Forsyth Family YMCA. An active member of First Baptist Church in Mocksville for many years, Dr. Foster led the Men's Bible Study Group, sang in the choir, and donated the land for the church parsonage. He was also a Rotary Club member, a scratch golfer, avid bridge and chess player, and a voracious reader. Dr. and Mrs. Foster retired to Pinehurst where they attend The Village Chapel. Dr. Foster also was one of the developers of the Pinewild Community in Pinehurst. Dr. Foster is survived by his loving wife Joy Spinner Foster. He is also survived by his three children, Stephanie Lynn (Basil Hudson), Stephen Wade Foster (Monie), Sabrina Maxwell (RB Black), and their mother Colean Smith Foster as well as two stepchildren Lisa J Spinner and Jeff Spinner (Carla). In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren, Sean Maxwell Hudson, Blair Foster, Hunter Foster (Abby), and Tyler F. Black and three step-grandchildren Justin , Brianna and Austin Spinner. Also mourning his loss is his devoted caregiver Mary Ann Cook and Father -in-Law Robert E. Anderson. A memorial service will be conducted on October 30, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. at the Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, 108 E. Kinderton Way in Advance, N.C. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
